Before you become started

What you need to back up photos & videos

  • Good net connection.
  • File sizes that can be backed upwards.  Your files won't exist backed upwards if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 ten 256.
  • File types that tin be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos can be backed up if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .modern, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

There are 2 ways to back up your phone, camera, or storage bill of fare from your estimator:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Fix up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to dorsum upward and thenBack up to Google Photos.
  4. Select Washed and thenSalvage.

Important:

  • If y'all remove a photo or video from your calculator that you previously backed up to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If you remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your estimator.
  • Uploads tin be slower and use more storage if you back upwards to both Google Photos and Google Bulldoze. Unless yous need a 2nd re-create in Drive, we recommend you back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you lot already have Backup and Sync for Drive

Fill-in and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already have Backup and Sync installed, you'll be migrated to Google Bulldoze for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and and then follow the steps in a higher place to gear up Google Bulldoze for desktop.

Select a dissimilar upload size

You can modify the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: Yous can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Bulldoze.

Back up your Apple tree Photo Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you tin support your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If you accept more than than one Apple Photos Library, merely the System Photo Library will be backed up. You can use Apple Photos to change the Organisation Photograph Library.
  • If your Apple Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will be backed upward to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and above.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Upload and thenComputer.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

You lot can also drag photos from your computer to the anthology to upload them to Google Photos. If you lot drag a photo to a specific album, the photo volition exist uploaded to that album.
